Shelter services is for abused, abandoned, neglected, runaway and homeless youth, ages 12 to 17 operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week; can serve 18 youth (9 boys & 9 girls). This program provides a safe, nurturing environment for children who have been removed from their home. The program offers food, shelter, clothing, academic support, physical and mental health assessments, therapeutic counseling and recreational and cultural services, access to caring adults, field trips, and after-school and summer camp programs. The impact this program has on human services and the community is that it provides a safe, structured, nurturing haven for children; decreases the number of runaway and homeless youth; thusly, protecting children from dangerous situations and participating in risky behavior activities. This is the only such emergency shelter for children in the Coastal Empire. Project Safe Place is operated under this program. The Runaway/Homeless Hotline is 1-800-292-4014. The Emergency Shelter served 42 children in 2017.
