Over one hundred supporters turned out early last Saturday morning as Greenbriar Children’s Center commemorated its 70th anniversary with a 5K “Walk to Greenbriar”, which began at the First African Baptist Church, 23 Montgomery St., and ended at the Greenbriar campus. Fleet Feet Savannah provided musical entertainment as the walkers gathered cheering them on. Walkers included members of the The Gamma Sigma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha

Sorority, Incorporated, board members, members of the founding churches and other Greenbriar supporters.

Beginning at First African Baptist Church, the very church that hosted the original planning meetings in 1944, the 5K Walk honored the individuals who launched the movement which led to the opening of Greenbriar Children’s Center in 1949. The route took participants past other founding churches who served as water stations for the walkers. They included Connors Temple, Tremont Temple, St. Matthews, and Pilgrim Baptist Church, before ending at Greenbriar’s campus. The 70th Anniversary celebration continues with a Gala to be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Reception 6 P.M. Gala at 7 P.M.
